Welcome to St. Bridget Church
St. Bridget Church
has been a part of Cheshire, CT since the mid 1800s. Originally established
as a mission, the church has grown from a congregation of just a few
families to over 2500. The first mass in the old church building was
celebrated on Christmas Day in 1859. After many years of struggling
with trying to establish a solid foundation for the church within
the community, St. Bridget parishioners welcomed their first resident
pastor in 1871. However, it was in the 1930s that St. Bridget Church
began to flourish. Growth was rapid and plans were soon put into place
to expand the facilities. Preceded by the parish center in 1957, the
present church building was dedicated in 1958, followed by the original
school wing in 1964. This building was home to a junior high school
for many years and then was closed and reopened in 1994 as St. Bridget
Catholic Elementary School to educate children in Pre-Kindergarten
through Grade 8. To accommodate the rapid growth of the school, a
new school wing was added in 1998 and the offices and library were
expanded in 2006.
St. Bridget opens
its doors to many groups and participates in many community events.
The local Neighbor-to-Neighbor food bank is housed on the premises.
Each year the school children build a float for the Memorial Day parade.
Since the beginning, under the leadership of many dedicated priests
and religious, the parishioners have made significant contributions
to this beautiful community.
